How to Cut Slate-ish

Slate-ish is not stone, and does not require diamond blades or wet cutting saws.

We use a miter saw with a carbide-toothed blade in our shop.
You can cut one piece at a time, or stack several. Hold firmly while cutting.
Use a jig to help reduce the support gap between the blade and the tile - thinner pieces especially can chatter and chip.

Advanced option - Table Saw Cutting

If your are experienced with a table saw, you can use it to cut lengthwise rips of the tile. This can be useful for the top row of tile - which may not be a full 1.5” tile width.
We use a 2x4 with a foam tape for a firm grip on the tile while cutting.

Look at our SERVICES page if you need these cuts done for you.

Overlap Installation Method

You can install tiles that slightly overlap, in order to avoid or at least reduce cutting.

This involves choosing placement before you add adhesive. Overlap ends over tiles that are relatively thin and uniform in thickness. This method is ONLY used when you are adhering loose tile with the 100% Silicone Adhesive.
