Recommended adhesive for larger projects: we recommend using Titebond Fast Grab FRP Adhesive. This trowelable adhesive can increase your installation speed! You can also add our optional tinting packet, so that the adhesive is a darker color, and can replace the need for painting your substrate a dark color. Small gaps between tiles can happen during installation - and this darkened adhesive will help fill these areas, making them invisible.
Use a 1/8” V-notched trowel. This is smaller than the recommendation on the Titebond product, but Slate-ish requires less adhesive, and you don’t want to have adhesive squeeze out between pieces. If you use this smaller trowel and still have a small amount of squeeze out - leave until completely dry and trim with a utility knife. If you smear adhesive on the surface of the Slate-ish tile, it will be difficult to remove.

For small projects: If a trowelable adhesive is simply too much for your smaller paroject, you can use silicone. When purchasing silicone adhesive, make sure it's labeled as "100% Silicone." Any color is suitable for your project, but we prefer clear.

For both methods - Maintain Cleanliness: To ensure a neat and precise application, keep your hands free of adhesive. Avoid transferring adhesive to the tile's face, as it can be challenging to remove once it dries. Keep paper towels nearby for wiping your fingers as needed during the application process.

By following these guidelines, you can achieve a strong and durable bond with your loose tiles. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Planks

Recommended Adhesive: For commercial / permanent installations, you can add a dollop of construction adhesive at 6-8” intervals down the back of the plank. This is an optional step.

Mechanical Fastening is necessary: Planks have an angled edge at the top and bottom of the plank. This groove allows you to use a brad nailer at the top edge, before setting the next row up into the groove, then repeat. Adhesive is not required, but will give you a solid, permanet installation. Planks that are only fastened with brad nails can be removed with minimal damage to your substrate.
